Day 13
What day is it? Day 13 Monday September, 9 2013 our Tour of the Grand
Canyon day.
Our room at the GCRY hotel was spacious, comfortable and conveniently
located across the parking lot from the GCRY Restaurant and Depot. The day
started with breakfast at the largest breakfast buffet I have ever seen. The Omelet
Chef whipped up an excellent ham, onion and cedar cheese omelet just for me.
After breakfast we ambled over to the depot to watch a Wild West shootout. After
the sheriff prevailed and had the outlaws in custody we boarded the train for a
2-1/2 hour ride to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon .
Upon arrival our motor coach driver, Larry, swooped us up and off to the Maswik
Lodge for a very nice buffet lunch. We spent the next 2 hours touring the best
photo op locations on the south rim. There are no words to describe the canyon.
The vistas touch you on many levels, spiritual, patriotic and when walking
close to the edge, fear. I do not have a great fear of heights, but approaching
the canyon edge sure tightened my butt.
The day was cloudy with a few patches of blue, a spot of
rain now and then. I took a bunch of photos and downloaded them to my laptop
upon our return; to my surprise they came out quite well.
The return train ride was interrupted by the gang of outlaws
that the sheriff had corralled in the morning. Another bit of Old West fun to
keep the passengers happy.
All in all we proclaimed our Grand Canyon
adventure a great success with a couple of glasses of Grand Canyon Railway Chardonnay
and Merlot. Trust me, everything is private labeled.
Photos can not and do not do justice to this natural wonder,
but here are a few anyways.
